犬(いぬ)も歩(ある)けば 棒(ぼう)に当(あ)たる
The dog that walks gets hit by a stick.
It used to use when the bad thing happened to someone. If you assert yourself, you get hit by people.
Nowadays, we use it for both good and bad things.
It means nothing will change if you do nothing, so take action and then good things (or bad things) will happen to you.
There is a similar proverb in English.
"A flying crow always catches something."
