(Japanese Culture)

❤Happy Valentine’s Day❤

Let’s learn about Valentine’s Day in Japan.

Do you know how we celebrate Valentine’s Day in Japan?
In Japan, women gives chocolates to the men they like/love, but there are some types of chocolates they give to the other people.

True love chocolate. Women gives chocolate/gifts to the men they like or they have secret crushes on. It’s a great opportunity to express their feelings. Every year, all the boys at school gets nervous on this day😆 本命チョコ is usually handmade or expensive store-bought chocolates.

Don’t worry if you didn’t get any 本命チョコ. You might still get 義理チョコ /Obligation chocolates. Yes, women gives chocolates to their classmates, coworkers and even their bosses they don’t like😂 Giving 義理チョコ is to express their feelings of gratitude to others. They usually buy a bunch of cheap chocolates for 義理チョコ. Nobody gets left out on Valentine’s Day.

Friends chocolates. Women even gives chocolates to their girl friends to thank them for being their friends.

Reverse chocolate which means a normal Valentine’s Day in the US. Men gives chocolate/gift to women they like/love. But it’s rare to see that because we have the day called “ホワイトデー/white day” on the 14th of March. It is exactly one month after the Valentine’s Day and on this day, the men are supposed to give gifts back to the women. They can express their feelings to women on White day.

Family Chocolate. You love your family so make or get some chocolates to your dad or brothers😂

Of course, there is MY CHOCOLATE. Some people says 自分(じぶん)チョコ literally means “myself chocolate”. Some people end up getting the most expensive chocolate for themselves.

What kind of chocolate are you planning to make/buy this year?
Let me know in the comment😆 I will get 自分チョコ😜🍫
