It doesn't make any differences if you run away 50 steps or 100 steps.
五十歩 (ごじゅっぽ) means 50 steps.
百歩 (ひゃっぽ) means 100 steps.
This proverb 五十歩百歩(ごじゅっぽひゃっぽ) is used when there is hardly any difference.
In English, "A miss is as good as a mile."
